It is that time when the community of United Methodist Churches along Route 210 — from the Beltway to Indian Head — come together for weekly worship during Lent. Our unified voices will sing praises to God while the voices of the clergy will bring the word, just not from their “home” pulpit.
The series starts with four afternoon services on Ash Wednesday, February 14:
• Noon – Oxon Hill UMC, 6400 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill
• Noon – Asbury UMC, 4004 Accokeek Road, Brandywine
• Noon – Faith UMC, 15769 Livingston Road, Accokeek
• 1 p.m. – Providence-Ft. Washington UMC, 10610 Old Fort Road, Fort Washington
Providence-Ft. Washington will have a 1 p.m. service on EACH Wednesday of Lent.
The Wednesday evening service will be at a different host church each week. Praise begins at 7:15 p.m., with the service at 7:30.
The kickoff service on Ash Wednesday evening is again going to be special. Our guest preacher is Rev. Antoine “Tony” Love, an assistant to Bishop LaTrelle Easterling. “Pastor Tony” is no stranger to Central and Southern Maryland. Christ UMC in Aquasco is his home church and his 25 years of ministry includes service at Corkran UMC in Temple Hills, Zion UMC in Lexington Park and Covenant Point UMC in Waldorf. The music will be provided by a “corridor choir” under the leadership of Gheran Goddard, music director at Oxon Hill UMC.
